Disability Pride Week
NeuroPride's annual Disability Pride Week celebrates disability culture and identity through a series of events, including workshops, keynote speakers, etc.

What is Disability Pride Week?
Disability Pride Week is celebrated annually on the first week of November and was inspired by Purple Tuesday which is celebrated annually on the first Tuesday of November. Purple Tuesday, originally created by Mike Adams the CEO of Purple, a renowned organization dedicated to reducing levels of inequality between disabled and non-disabled people, aims to reduce inequalities and highlight the value of inclusive practices. It was originally launched in the UK to address the widespread challenges disabled people face when accessing products, services, and experiences. NeuroPride's founder, River Kratochvil was inspired by the success and innovation of Purple Tuesday and decided to expand it into a week full of disability pride and celebration.
Why is it Important?
On top of any struggles that may directly stem from their disability, many people with disabilities deal with access concerns with services and benefits, ableism (including but not limited to the r-slur, stigma, shame, & bullying), limited opportunity due to lack of accommodation or low expectations. These challenges can make daily living as a disabled person difficult. However, by celebrating disability pride we can instill a sense of pride in our disabled identities and celebrate the many things that make us unique.
