Peer-to-Peer Counseling

NeuroPride’s Peer-to-Peer Counseling program offers neurodivergent and questioning students personalized, peer-based support. In one-on-one sessions, you can talk through everyday challenges like academic stress, social dynamics, executive functioning, sensory fatigue, and more with our trained student staff.

Friendly Conversation

Our goal is to create a supportive, identity-affirming space where you feel heard, respected, and encouraged. We focus on practical strategies, problem-solving, and connection to resources so you can thrive academically and personally.

What to Expect:
  • Judgment-free conversation with a trained peer counselor.

  • Collaborative problem-solving and concrete next steps.

  • Resource navigation (campus offices, accommodations, study skills, community supports).

  • Short-term, skills-focused support with referrals when helpful.

Topics We Can Help With:
  • Academic stress, time management, and executive functioning

  • Social issues, boundaries, and communication

  • Navigating group projects, presentations, or participation expectations

  • Sensory needs, overstimulation, and energy management

  • Self-advocacy with instructors and campus services

How to Access Walk in:​
  • Come to our office in the student activity center during drop-in hours Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10am-6pm. Email: neuropride.uw@gmail.com with the subject line “Peer Counseling” to request an appointment or ask questions.

  • Accessibility: If you need specific accommodations (quiet room, dim lighting, written communication, etc.), let us know!

Training & Approach

Our student staff complete training in peer counseling skills, active listening, helpful tools, disability-informed practice, and campus resource navigation each semester. Sessions are collaborative and strengths-based, grounded in neurodiversity-affirming values.

  • We are not medical or mental health professionals.

  • We do not diagnose, prescribe, or provide psychotherapy.

We keep conversations private within program guidelines. If there is a concern about immediate safety (yours or someone else’s), we may need to involve appropriate supports to keep people safe.
